Marco Caricato was recently presented with the prestigious Faculty Early Career Development Award from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the highest honor from the NSF to junior researchers. Formerly a research scientist at Gaussian, Inc., Caricato has been an assistant professor of chemistry at Kansas University since 2014. His award-winning research proposal, “First Principles Evaluation of Optical Activity in Solids,” concerns optical activity, specifically the interaction between chiral solids and light. Caricato’s innovative work is expected to have a far-reaching impact in the scientific community.
